As Headteacher at Stedham and Headteacher at Harting C of E Primary School, I am proud to work alongside fabulous teams of children, staff, governors and families who ensure that children part of the Weald and Downland Schools Federation are at the heart of all that we do.

I began my career in education after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz, with a specialism in Saxophone. This initially led me to begin working with children in Year R and 1 with special educational needs, using music as a way to express their thoughts and emotions. Following this, I began working as a peripatetic music teacher across all age groups in a number of schools in London and also led a youth big band for a number of years. It was through these experiences that I identified my passion for education and decided to become a qualified teacher. Since this time, I have worked in schools in Surrey, London and West Sussex where I have led on empowering teams on implementing successful school development resulting in improved outcomes for all.

Teaching at Stedham for over a decade has taken me across the primary age range, including four years in Early Years, six years in Year 5 and 6 and four years in the middle classes. I now work as a Senior Teacher at Stedham Primary School: teaching our Hedgehogs class in the mornings and concentrating on improving teaching and learning in the afternoons.

What I enjoy most is finding creative ways to make learning engaging, memorable and fun, while helping children grow in confidence and curiosity. I love small schools and working at Stedham also means there is always an opportunity to get involved in something new and exciting.

In my spare time (I know, what’s that!?) I’ve written five children’s picture books: the Mixed Up Zoo series, as well as Beware of Darkness, a novel for older children.

Away from school and writing, you’ll usually find me listening to The Beatles, watching cricket, supporting Ipswich Town, building Lego, playing Xbox or disappearing into Middle-earth (I love Lord of the Rings!).

Above all, I feel incredibly lucky to work somewhere like Stedham, where children are genuinely known as individuals and there is always room for big ideas in a small school.

I first joined Stedham as a part-time Teaching Assistant and clearly enjoyed it enough to stay! Before becoming a teacher, I worked as an HLTA, giving me the opportunity to work across different year groups and develop my experience in the classroom. I’m now in my 4th year teaching KS2 and have made the move from part-time TA to full-time teacher.

I enjoy creating practical, hands-on learning and have a particular strength in continuous provision, giving children opportunities to apply their learning independently and through purposeful activities.

My favourite subject to teach is Languages. I also really value the friendly, down-to-earth nature of Stedham and the fact that staff know the children well.

Outside of school, I enjoy long countryside walks, travelling and anything involving classic cars and motorsport. I’m a particular fan of classic Minis and, somewhat randomly, I also keep Indian Runner ducks!

A fun fact about me is that I used to photograph Formula 1, combining my interests in photography and motorsport.

I have been part of the Stedham family for 8 years and have worked across all year groups in the school. I love being part of such a welcoming, close-knit school community. I am currently the Teaching Assistant in Foxes Class, as well as our school’s Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) and Social Media Lead.

My role as an ELSA is something I am particularly passionate about. My own experiences of supporting a child’s emotional and mental wellbeing have given me a genuine understanding of how important children’s emotional wellbeing is.

As an ELSA, I support children with understanding and managing their emotions, building confidence and developing strategies to cope with life’s challenges. I particularly enjoy creating a safe and supportive space where children can explore their feelings and develop the skills they need to thrive.

I also look after Stedham’s social media, capturing and sharing the wonderful things happening in school, from children’s achievements to the little moments that make Stedham such a lovely place to be. I love spreading the joy of our school with our local community.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, hunting for sea glass on the beach and taking photographs of the people who are special to me and our lovely local surroundings. I’m also an autumn girl through and through!
